Advocacy in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The advocacy in Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently not established at the state level (draft Law on Advocacy in Bosnia and Herzegovina). Advocacy / legal profession is organized at the entity level. According to the Law on Advocacy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, advocacy is an independent professional activity that is organized and functions in accordance with the law. Attorneys’ practice as a professional activity is performed by attorneys-at-law as individuals, attorneys, for the purpose of joint practice of the profession, may form joint law offices and law firms. Lawyers are obliged to provide legal assistance conscientiously and professionally, in accordance with the Constitution, law and other regulations, as well as the Statute and other general acts of the Federal Bar Association, and the Attorneys’ Code of Ethics in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
An attorney is obliged to keep everything entrusted to him by a client as a lawyer's / attorney’s secret, unless the attorney is exempted from this obligation based on the express or tacit consent of the client. - The seat of the Bar Association of the Republika Srpska is in Banja Luka.
